Installation Introduction
You can use any package downloader to download the LunaSuite onto your Newton. Before you install, make sure that you remove the previous version of the LunaSuite from your Newton. To remove the LunaSuite from your Newton, go to the "Extensions" folder of the Extras Drawer and remove all packages that have the name "LunaSuite" in them. Select them all at once and choose "Delete" from the envelope menu. If you have already registered your previous copy of the LunaSuite Pro, don't worry, your registration information will not be erased. After all LunaSuite packages have been erased, restart your Newton by hitting the button on its back. This will make sure that really all LunaSuite software is gone. Your preferences will also be preserved.
LunaSuite packages
1st LunaSuite Pro.pkg
A small package that should be installed first on your Newton. This package also must be installed on your internal store. It contains information that is required by all other packages so it is essential that it loads first. You are required to install this package. When installed on the Newton, this package requires about 20 Kbytes of store space.
2nd LunaSuite Pro.pkg
The large package that contains the rest of the LunaSuite Pro 2.1 applications. This package can be installed on either the internal or an external store. You are required to install this package. Installed on the Newton this package requires about 940 Kbytes of store space.
LunaSuite Pro SMS.pkg
A package that provides GSM Short Messaging capabilities to the LunaSuite Pro 2.1. If installed, this package must be installed on the same store as the "2nd LunaSuite Pro.pkg" package. You are not required to install this package. Install this package only when you are interested in using GSM SMS (most likely European, Australian and Asian users). Installed on the Newton this package requires about 90 Kbytes of store space.
Installation steps
Go through the following steps when installing the LunaSuite Pro 2.1:

Choose to download the first package, the "1st LunaSuite Pro.pkg" file. Make sure that your Newton puts this package on its internal store. Do this by opening the "Card" application and making sure that "Save new info and packages on this card" is not selected. If you don't have a memory card, you're OK. When you've made sure the above is the case, download the package to your Newton.

| 3) |
Select second package |
Now download the second package, the "2nd LunaSuite Pro.pkg" file. Since it doesn't matter to what store this package is downloaded either check or uncheck "Save new info and packages on this card" to your own preference. If you have have a memory card, you're OK. :) Download the package to your Newton.
|
| 4) |
(Optionally) select third package |
If you want to use GSM SMS then also download the third package, the "LunaSuite Pro SMS.pkg". Getting started |
You should be ready to use LunaSuite now. If you are a first time user of the LunaSuite you should not have a need to configure anything. The LunaSuite will automatically prompt you for missing configuration information when it needs it. For any assistance go to our support web pages at http://www.lunatech.com/products/lunasuite/support/. If you're anxious to get started just open your Inbox and choose "Inet POP3" from the "Receive" button to receive your mail or open the "LunaRanger" application from "Unfiled Icons" in your Extras Drawer to browse the web.
|
Note ! If for some reason the newly installed LunaSuite Pro says that it is not installed but you did previously have a registered LunaSuite Pro version you should hit the registration button and go through the registration process again. Note that our site will simply return the same unlock code to you, so this doesn't count as an extra registration.
LunaSuite needs configuration information to work. Some information needs to be provided before
LunaSuite can function properly, some is only needed if you want control over the way LunaSuite
behaves. There are two ways to configure LunaSuite: the first is to read all the documentation and
configure everything to your liking, the second is to just start using LunaSuite, it will
inform you what vital information is missing while operating and conveniently open the location
you'll have to add or change information. Please note that this last method leaves you with default
settings for non-vital functionality, determined by our mood of the day, so careful examination of
all options might be advisable.
However you configure LunaSuite it is wise to try to understand the use of Owner cards,
Worksite cards and Transports completely in order to use LunaSuite to the fullest. The
configuration details are stored in three seperate places to offer the most power:
- Owner cards:
Owner cards hold all information for the LunaSuite concerning your identity. This consists of usernames and passwords, which are used to identify who you are and the access rights you have. For example the location of the mailservers is stored on an Owner card, along with the details of how to receive information. Also on the Owner card is information about how youwant to browse the Web, with or without images for example.
- Work site card:
Worksite cards hold all information concerning your location. This consists of the method of communication and all information necessary to operate the specified link method. Also the place from where you are communicating and it's peculiarities are stored here, like for example proxy settings.
- Transport preferences:
The LunaSuite is build upon the idea of transports, this means that objects found in the Newton are transported out, and information from the outside world is transported into your Newton as an object as well. Transports preferences hold all information concerning a transport. Since all transports are routed through the Inbox or Outbox, the preferences are located there also. The settings include asking for owner and worksite before starting a transport and several other transport-specific settings.
You can make use of different dial-in service providers, depending on the location card you
select, and different mail service providers, depending on the selected owner card. The separation
of configuration information offers felxibility and power. You can
setup several Worksite cards, all related to your location, so one for home, one for work and one
for mobile use, or any other way you see fit. Using different Owner cards allows you to retrieve
mail for several users or from more than one mailserver.
LunaSuite Config Application
The LunaSuite Config application provides direct access to the three configuration locations.
The LunaSuite Config application is located in the Setup folder in the Extras drawer. If you
don't need it anymore you can safely delete it to conserve precious memory, you can always reinstall
it if you want to use it again. You can always reach the settings via the Ownerinfo icon in the
Extras drawer. However, the LunaSuite Config is small and offers great comfort!
You have a choice between the sections that you can adjust preferences for, Ownercards, Worksite
cards and In/Outbox preferences. If you want to make more cards, you can do so via the Extras drawer
where the Owner info resides.
Configuring cards directly
The LunaSuite settings on Owner and Worksite cards can be added or changed directly by opening
the icon of Owner Info. This is accomplished by opening the Extras drawer and follow the next few
steps.
| 1) |
Tap the Extras drawer |
|
| 2) |
Select Setup folder |
|
| 3) |
Tap Owner Info |
|
Here are the Owner cards and the Worksite cards you already made. You probably have made some of
this information the first time you started your Newton. If you don't have any cards, then tap "New"
to make new ones.
You have to add LunaSuite configuration information for the appropriate transports to both Owner
cards and Worksite cards. More information on the technical details can be found in the section
concerning each transports.
Configuring an Owner card
LunaSuite can alter its behaviour based on information it finds on the current Owner
cards.
Tap an appropriate Owner or make a new one.
For every Owner card you have, you can customize where and how to retrieve and send information,
allowing multiple personalities for yourself or multiple Newton users.
Tip ! If you cannot add the LunaSuite items and don't see them on the card, tap Show and choose All
Info. There they are ! Now you are ready to continue to configuring your card.
Configuring a Worksite card
LunaSuite allows you to dial in to several different dial-in providers via the Worksite card
mechanism. For each location you can setup a Worksite card and define your preferred service
provider. You can adjust worksite related parameters for most transports.
Tap an appropriate Worksite or make a new one.
Configuring a transport preference
LunaSuite adds several transports to your Newton. These have several settings that you might want
to adjust. Details for every transport can be found in their respective sections.
To change settings for a transport, go to the In/Outbox and tap the i.
Configuring the NIE
In using the NIE, we have noticed there are a lot of hurdles to take. Most of these can be
overcome by reading the NIE documentation carefully. We would like to encourage you to do so here
again. However, we have found several tips to be very useful.
The NIE has a preference you should set in order to use it conveniently together with the
LunaSuite. Standard it is setup to hang up immediately after a request is finished. This results in
building and dropping the connection several times while retrieving a typical HTML page, because a
HTML page often contains several images, which need to be transported to your Newton as well. You
can configure this not to happen by going to the Internet Setup and choosing Prefs from the Info
button.
The Preference settings allow you set the time that the NIE will wait before hanging up the
connection.
Now the NIE will not hang up the connection after a LunaSuite transport has finished. If you want
to close the connection before the timeout occurs, you can tap on the activity icon (the little star
at the top of your screen) and choose Internet, a dialog will come up to ask you if it is ok to drop
the connection. For detailed and technical information about setting up your serial TCP/IP
connection, please refer to the NIE documentation and your service provider.
