If you want to browse a FTP site, this will be seamless with LunaSuite. Using LunaRanger you can open a FTP location, which will either be a directory, which will be displayed like this:
If the FTP location points to a file, this will be downloaded and decoded. This allows for installation of packages, retrieval of text, html, images or any info you want.
You can access any ftp server, whether it is a public server or one protected with a password. If you want to open a ftp site that needs a username and password you can embed the information in the URL. This works by building the URL like ftp://username:password@ftp.host.name/dir/file.name.
If a ftp server is protected and you haven't supplied a username, ommitted the password or made a mistake, LunaSuite will prompt you to provide the proper authentication. If your server is public as well and you don't provide a username, LunaSuite will login as user anonymous, so in this case you will have to supply the username and if you wish the password to login as yourself.
To download packages, the protocol used on the Internet is the File Transfer Protocol, FTP. It is a widely used protocol, which lets you retrieve information located on the world-wide Internet. The FTP module lets you retrieve any information you like, typically binary files. The retrieved files will be recognized on the basis of the filename, to be precise the extension of the filename. This means that the result will be dependend on what filenames the information is given.
To add FTP settings to your LunaSuite setup, you can use the LunaSuite Setup package for most uses, see the Configuring section on the use of the Setup package. To set up all the details, you can follow the numbered instructions in this section.
FTP settings need to be added to both Ownercards and Worksite cards. The very good reasons for this are explained in the section Configuration, were you also can read how to work with Owner and Worksite cards.
Configuring an Owner card
InetFTP does not have configuration to be added to a Owner card at this moment. However, a placeholder for future configuration info is added. Your Owner Card will now have a item, InetFTP.
Configuring a Worksite card
InetFTP does not have configuration to be added to a Worksite card at this moment. However, a placeholder for future configuration info is added. Your Worksite Card will now have a item, InetFTP.
Control over retrieving FTP requests
You can have more control over retrieving FTP requests by using the FTP preferences that are accessible via the Info button in the Inbox.
By changing these settings you are able to let the LunaSuite always use the default Owner and Worksite instead of asking for them when browsing. This is very convenient since otherwise you will be asked for every item that is transported, typically a directory and each subsequent directory change or download.
You can choose not to see what is going on, by disabling the status dialogs. They will be available by tapping on the star at the top of your screen, which is were active background programs go (No, not to the Great Sky Beyond).
